Tom Sanderson in Barcelona

Tom Sanderson

I feel extremely lucky to be in a position where I can do something I love. I have always had a keen interest in travel and my earliest memories are spending summer holidays with my parents who both teachers. We would tour around France and Spain in a campervan, camping and exploring an array of interesting locations and historic sites.

This fuelled my passion for travel and led me to taking 18 months out before university to travel and work around South East Asia and Australia. As an 18 year old, I learned so much from this experience and it inspired me to focus on working in the travel industry. A few more adventures later and I finally found my calling working within educational travel.

I have a genuine passion for helping teachers organise all sorts of educational tours for their students as I personally feel learning outside the classroom is probably the most valuable type of education you can get. Having experienced first-hand the positive effects going on an educational trip abroad can have on a young group of children, I know there are memories and life lessons students will never forget.  Whether it is travelling without their parents for the first time; developing confidence to tackle other challenges in life; enjoying the social side of mixing with their peers; or reaping the rewards from the educational benefits, there is something everyone can take from exploring a different country, a new culture and historic sites that will place learning in context.

My own interest in history in particular means I love organising battlefield tours to Belgium and France while the wide variety of other amazing educational trips also allows me to build a tour with is sure to leave students with lasting memories.

Favourite city: I am fortunate to have visited many beautiful cities around the world. Though San Francisco and New York are definitely up there with the best to explore, Barcelona has to be my favourite city with its combination of city and beach life. The people, the culture, the food and drink are great, plus the laidback way of life means it just takes my number one spot.

About me: Outside of work you will find me exploring new places. I enjoy going on various hiking, surfing and camping trips. I’m a huge sports fan, but my favourites are football, rugby, basketball, swimming, and tennis.
