Andalucia: History & Battlefields

Andalucia: History & Battlefields

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

Andalucia takes its name from the Moorish kingdom it once was. The evidence of these roots, and the processes that have shaped its history since the Reconquista, make Andalucia a fascinating place to study the different stages of Spanish history through unification and exploration.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: Especially suitable for students studying the Reconquista and mediaeval Spanish history.
  • KS 5: Reflect on the influence of the past and the present as the streets and monuments of this region tell the story of a city and its struggles throughout history.
  • KS 5: Think about how this region has influenced events elsewhere in Europe and the rest of the world.

Student Outcomes:

  • Observe and learn about the history of Andalucia first-hand.
  • Understand how monuments' meanings change over time due to changing attitudes and events.
  • Explore the importance of events in Andalucia for Spain, Europe and the world.
  • Appreciate the complexity of the unification of Spain.

Question: Who said: 'Bullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger of death and in which the degree of brilliance in the performance is left to the fighter's honor.'?
