Barcelona: Art & Art History

[Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, Key Stage 5 - A Level]

Barcelona is an incredible city for educational art trips. The city's artistic heritage isn't just found in its many world-class galleries, but out and about on the streets, where students can see the architecture of Gaudí's buildings, parks, and the Sagrada Familia - his last, and some say his most ambitious, work in progress.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 3-5: See a wide range of art, not only in museums but throughout the city.
  • KS 3-5: Learn about the influences that have provided the inspiration for so much important art.
  • KS 3-5: Inspiration for students' own work based upon their observations and perceptions of Barcelona.

Student Outcomes:

  • There is a wide range of influential works to see first-hand and sometimes in their original environment.
  • Students can follow historical and contemporary achievements.
  • Works are explained so students can understand the inspirations and techniques behind their creation.
  • Students' own work can benefit from the range of influences they can draw upon.

Question: Who said: 'Wise Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.'?

Answer: Salvador Dali
