Bay of Naples : Geography

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

With its terrace gardens, mountainous steep cliffs and famous volcanic heritage a school trip to the Bay of Naples is a perfect opportunity to study geography as well as the amazing views. There are also plenty of small towns and fishing villages which will prove to be fascinating points of study of how communities adapt and work with their natural environment.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: Study the craters of Solfataria which still emit jets of steam.
  • KS 5: Explore Mount Vesuvius which can be climbed on foot and is still active.
  • KS 5: Appreciate the connection between ancient communities and their choice of location.
  • KS 5: Observe the volcanic lakes and mud pools of Campi Flegrei.

Student Outcomes:

  • An opportunity for students to study a still active volcano by actually walking up it.
  • Find the correlation between communities and why they choose to live amongst such aggressive landscapes.
  • Undertake field research within a spectacular setting.
  • Evaluate the affects of tourism on the local community and the landscape.

It's just a fantastic area to study volcanoes and impacts of eruptions - students can't help but learn! Sorrento is a safe and plesant resort, which my 17/18 year olds enjoyed and wanted to stay longer.
