Caribbean coast : Citizenship & Learning Skills

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

The citizenship content of this programme is closely linked with the environmental work. Being part of the turtle conservation project will allow students to work alongside local staff members and contribute to the everyday preservation of the area. Students will have the opportunity to integrate and learn about the conservation issues, local cultures and communities of Caribbean Costa Rica.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: The key element is gaining valuable work experience and collaborating alongside Tico community members.
  • KS 5: During the day to day activities all students will be involved with assisting in the running of the turtle conservation project. This will bring students face to face with an organisation that is working to make the world a better place.
  • KS 5: Students will learn how to be responsible, global citizens and understand the diversity of Central America.

Student Outcomes:

  • Students will work alongside Costa Ricans on a Turtle Conservation project.
  • Explore the rainforests and the Caribbean coast.
  • Collaborate with the local community and environment by working with an established, locally run, conservation organisation.
  • Venture into the forest canopy and gain a rare insight into the canopy eco-system.
  • Learn about the flora and fauna of the rainforest by spending a night under canvas.
  • ReceiveĀ inspiration to be environmentally-friendly.
