Caribbean coast : Geography

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

This fantastic programme will provide opportunities to ask about issues such as sustainability and conservation as students interact with members of a conservation organisation and members of the local community. Human geographers can see how local communities work with the surrounding natural environment.  There will also be additional opportunities to combine the turtle project with physical geographical studies of volcanoes and national parks.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: Learn about sustainability by studying the interaction of people and their environments through the turtle conservation project.
  • KS 5: Opportunities to study flooding, storm survival strategies and volcanoes.
  • KS 5: Study the natural environment of the country's National parks.

Student Outcomes:

  • Explore the Caribbean coastline and examine the contrasts and similarities from the European equivalent.
  • Study the local geography especially the volcanoes.
  • Venture into the forest canopy and gain a rare insight into the canopy eco-system.
  • Learn about the flora and fauna of the rainforest by spending a night under canvas.
  • Work alongside Costa Ricans on a Turtle Conservation project.
