Etosha National Park : Citizenship & Learning Skills

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

Students will look at tourism and assess their own impact on the delicate natural environments that they visit. Students will also be able to assess the legacy of colonialism, cultural diversity and how the Namibians have developed their rights and freedom.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: Compare and contrast the Namibian culture to the rest of Africa.
  • KS 5: Experience the street vendors, markets, churches and sites of cultural significance.
  • KS 5: Interact with the guides from the National Parks and ask questions related to conservation and wildlife.

Student Outcomes:

  • Learn about the mammals and birds of Namibia and why they are so important to the Namibian people and culture.
  • Explore one of the last remaining wild spots on earth and interact with the people that live there.
  • Engage in the subject of conservation and the impacts of tourism on local communities.
  • Understand why there are European castles and Bavarian designed buildings on the West Coast of Africa.
