Spending a day as a volunteer with the National Park Wardens will provide experiences for your students to contribute and work with an organisation that is trying to make the world a better place. There will also be many opportunities to meet and observe the local community and find out how they spend their day-to-day lives.
Subject Focus:
- KS 5: Engage with members of the local community, Park Wardens and leading conservationists from the Galapagos Islands.
- KS 5: This tour will enable students to discuss topical issues with the employees of the Galapagos National Park.
- KS 5: Understand the impact of European influences on Ecuador as well as understanding the indigenous cultures of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
- KS 5: Assess how tourism and the National Park legislation have impacted upon remote Island communities.
Student Outcomes:
- Learn about evolution theories through guided tours and talking to local experts.
- Learn of the conservation issues, impacts of tourism and the increase of population pressure on bio-diversity.
- Contribute to conservation by assisting park wardens and working in collaboration with local communities.
- Evaluate their own impacts upon visiting the Islands.
- See the legendary giant tortoise "Lonesome George".
