Galapagos Islands: Geography

[Key Stage 5 - A Level]

This tour allows students to explore the islands as a physical and human geographer. There will be National Park visits to understand the theory of evolution and discuss tourism, conservation and sustainable development with Park wardens and leading conservationists.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 5: Observe and study an active volcano in action.
  • KS 5: Examine the after affects of volcanoes from a physical and human perspective
  • KS 5: Discuss evolution and other topics with the wardens of the national parks.
  • KS 5: Spend a day with the Park Rangers for work experience and see their work from a day to day perspective.

Student Outcomes:

  • Learn about volcanoes and the land mass that they create.
  • Understand conservation issues, impacts of tourism and the increase of population pressure on bio-diversity.
  • Contribute to conservation by assisting park wardens and working in collaboration with local communities.
  • Evaluate their own impacts upon visiting the Islands.
  • See the legendary giant tortoise "Lonesome George".
