As part of the citizenship programme students will be able to experience traditional village life, learn about local customs, climb Mt Kinabalu and take part in Borneo jungle training with a specialist survival expert.
Subject Focus:
- KS 5: Develop team work and leadership skills during the jungle survival camp.
- KS 5: Take part in a home stay programme with a local family from the Batu Puith village.
- KS 5: Trek up Mt Kinabalu and spend the night a local Kiau village gaining a unique insight into their way of life.
- KS 5: Interact with local people and learn how they adapt to their natural environment.
Student Outcomes:
- Experience a pristine tropical rainforest and spectacular views.
- Climbing Mt Kinabalu, students will gain team work and leadership skills and challenge themselves physically and mentally.
- See the orangutans in their natural habitat and assess the impact of development on the natural environment.
- Learn of jungle survival techniques and the natural resources of the rainforest.
- Exchange ideas and cultures with local villagers who live on the edge of the rainforest.
