The Geography programme allows students to compare and contrast the National Parks of Europe with the Rain Forests of South East Asia. There will be plenty of opportunities to appreciate the natural environment and assess the impact of tourism on Borneo, while exploring areas where new species of flora and fauna are still being discovered.
Subject Focus:
- KS 5: Visit Kinabalu National Park and compare with the National Parks of Europe.
- KS 5: Experience four different climate zones whilst climbing Mt Kinabalu.
- KS 5: Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.
- KS 5: Stay with a local family and learn about their community and way of life.
- KS 5: Guided forest walks to learn of flora and fauna species.
Student Outcomes:
- Experience a pristine tropical rainforest and spectacular views.
- Climbing Mt Kinabalu, students will gain team work and leadership skills and challenge themselves physically and mentally.
- See the orangutans in their natural habitat and assess the impact of development on the natural environment.
- Learn of jungle survival techniques and the natural resources of the rainforest.
- Exchange ideas and cultures with local villagers who live on the edge of the rainforest.
