This region of Germany is rich in historical details. Behind the fairytale castles are stories of important actors in German and European history, while the events of 1848 in this region provided an important part of the background to Karl Marx's political thought.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 4-5: Explore the important sites, events and characters of medieval European history.
  • KS 4-5: Understand the effects of events in this region on European and world history.
  • KS 4-5: Learn about the processes that led to German unification and reunification.

Student Outcomes:

  • Critically analyse monuments and symbols, looking at the people responsible for their building and their role in history.
  • Understand the importance of historical events on Germany and the rest of the world.
  • Gain an understanding of German culture and how it differs throughout the country.
