Rome was a major world centre of the Renaissance and has some fine examples of architecture from the period including the Piazza del Campidoglio by Michelangelo and the Palazzo Senatorio, seat of the city government. There are also many other important sites, museums and galleries all housing impressive works including the Vatican City and the magnificent Sistine Chapel.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 3-5: Study Renaissance and other European art, including many world-famous works by artists such as: Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Giotto, and Botticelli.
  • KS 3-5: Provide inspiration for students' own work through a wide range of media including painting and sculpture.
  • KS 3-5: Understand the historical context of Renaissance Art and architecture.

Student Outcomes:

  • Students can observe a range of artwork created through a number of different media.
  • Works are put into context for students to understand the inspirations and techniques behind Roman and Renaissance art.
  • Students' own work can benefit from the range of influences at their disposal.
