Known as the Venice of the North, St Petersburg is famed for its European style and palace-lined waterways. It has retained its traditional grandeur without succumbing to communist doctrine and several buildings from the Tsars remain largely intact. St Petersburg presents a fantastic opportunity to travel to a city of tradition.

Subject Focus:

  • KS 3-5: A wide range of art is on display at some of the most important art museums in the world.
  • KS 3-5: Students can learn about the cities that have provided the inspiration for so much great art throughout history.
  • KS 3-5: This is a chance to seek inspiration through the wide range of art on display.
  • KS 5: Students can explore and evaluate how issues such as art presentation have been addressed.

Student Outcomes:

  • Students can see a range of art from a number of different contexts and in a range of media.
  • Works are put into context for students so they can begin to understand the inspirations and techniques behind their creation.
  • Students' own work can benefit from the range of influences on display.
  • Students can see how artists of the present are responding to the influence of the past.
