Students will learn a great deal during their time spent in South Africa. Whether they are following the compelling presentations from local experts or actively helping young children in the townships, this is a great chance for a student studying citizenship to learn more about their subject.
Subject Focus:
- KS 4-5: A local community expert will talk to students about the challenges facing the local townships and the difficulties encountered by under privileged South African children.
- KS 4-5: Taking children from the townships rock pooling and to the Kommetjie Lighthouse.
- KS 4-5: Working with the communities on the local townships, painting local schools and community centres.
- KS 4-5: Learn how the rights and freedoms have been won in South Africa.
- KS 4-5: Receive a presentation about the HIV and Aids Epidemic in South Africa.
Student Outcomes:
- Engage with the topic of apartheid, study the legacy of colonial rule and learn of the challenges that face South Africa.
- Understand the privilege of global citizenship and help engage with township communities.
- Learn how to surf in the Indian Ocean.
- Visit the local nature reserves and see the baboons and penguins.
- Enjoy a traditional Braii (BBQ) and experience authentic live South African Music.
