• Following the impressive spectacle of the Beijing Olympics, China is beginning to welcome foreign tourism more openly as it asserts itself more confidently on the world stage. Destined to play an important part in world events in the years to come, there has never been a better time to take your young musicians to this fascinating, complex and deeply cultural nation. As well as the capital, Beijing, we can arrange visits and performances in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Xian.

    Don't Miss!

    • We recommend a guided tour of Beijing which includes Tiannamen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.
    • How about some traditional Chinese entertainment? We can arrange tickets to an acrobatics display or a kung fu tournament, for example!
    • We also recommend at least one traditional Chinese meal. And don't forget the contemporary as well as ancient Beijing - the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium and Cube swimming complex are well worth a visit.
    • Further highlights include the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, the Hutong area and Wangfujing Street. And that's before we get to Shanghai, Hong Kong or Xian!
  • Forbidden City

The Forbidden City, Gu Gong in Chinese lies in the centre of Beijing and was once the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum, it is the world's largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. 9999 rooms are surrounded by a six metre deep moat and ten metre high walls.

  • Chinese Opera/Theatre Visit

A visit to the Beijing Opera is a fantastic opportunity to develop students' listening skills and appreciate Chinese culture.

  • Yangtze River Cruise

The mighty Yangtze, the largest river in China, is said to be the cradle of Chinese civilization. The "Ten Thousand Li River" flows 6.300 km from the snowy heights of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau to the East China Sea, just north of Shanghai. The river winds through some of China's most spectacular scenery, down the Three Gorges, known for their dramatic beauty, cultural treasures, religious and historical sites and most recently for the building of the controversial Three Gorges Dam.

  • Visit the Great Wall

One of the wonders of the world. The Great Wall was originally built during the Qin Dynasty to protect the country from Mongolian invaders, it stretches an amazing 6,000 miles and can be visited on a day trip from Beijing.

  • Terracotta Army

Buried with the emperor Qin, the Emperor who gave China its name and unified it for the first time, these stunning statues are a testament to his power and beliefs. They give students a chance to explore the early unification of China.

  • Tiananmen Square

Located at the centre of Beijing City is the infamous Tiananmen Square, where you can visit Tiananmen Tower, the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong's Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. A visit here allows students to reflect upon the struggle of the people of China and how the state values its privacy.
