School Trip Activities - Normandy, France
Archery
We have three archery targets safely located within the chateau activities area. All young archers will be closely supervised by our trained instructor and will learn about several aspects of modern archery including safety and bow work.
BBQ Nights
Lisle, the chateau manager, says the best way to BBQ is to throw it all on and panic! Local meat, salad, vegetables and ice-cream are the perfect meal for a summer's evening outside.
Bivi-building
How about an introduction to making an overnight bivouac? Your students can learn about a fundamental bush craft skill as they work together to erect shelters and gather wood for a possible campfire.
Blind Trail
This is great fun and requires trust, team work and a high level of communication. Participants take it in turns to lead their team through a rope course, in between trees and around obstacles all whilst blind-folded!
Cheese Tasting
Platters of French cheese can be served after the meal with a wine accompliment for teachers. The delicious cheeses of Normandy are distinctive in flavour and provide a real taste of France.
Circus Frenzy
‘Roll up Roll up!' Have you ever felt like a Circus Ringmaster? Well this activity is designed to teach students the arts of devil-sticks, plate-spinning, bubble blowing and other fantastic activities. Students' creativity will flourish as they develop their co-ordination and concentration skills.
Frogs & Snails Evening
This is a great opportunity for pupils to try something a little bit different! the snails and frogs legs are usually served on the first night at meal times. This gives pupils to try a traditional delicacy and discover whether frogs really do taste like chicken!
Hiking
As our chateau is located in beautiful countryside, there are many excellent hikes to be enjoyed in the surrounding area, for instance, Balleroy Woods are great for a day's hiking in the fresh air.
Initiative Exercises
We've created lots of fiendishly deceptive schemes to encourage lateral thinking and teamwork. With the help of a trained chateau instructor see if your team can work out: Giant's Fingers, Birthday Bench and the famous Spider's Web!
Multi-purpose Sports Court
This fantastic playing surface can be used for: basketball, 5-a-side football, tennis and netball. Instructors can help to arrange mini-tournaments and give advice on how to play and how to improve. All equipment is available upon request.
Orienteering
Once you've mastered how to use a map and compass you'll never get lost again! This is a great opportunity for pupils to race against each other as they search for fixed grid references and compass points.
Rugby/Football Pitch
Our new surface is endorsed by superstar groundsman Jason Booth, head groundsman at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Leeds - home of Leeds Carnegie RU side who play in the Guinness Premiership and RL Super League Champions: Leeds Rhino's. Jason has been voted Groundsman of the Year twice and regularly visits the chateau to consult with the pitch maintenance team.
Survival Exercises
Given a disaster scenario, students need to quickly establish priorities, work as a team and make some important decisions. They must then put theory into practice and work on survival skills such as shelter building, search and rescue and first aid.
