  • Ring Boulevard

Vienna's Ring Boulevard is 4 kilometres long and circles the city centre. It was initiated by Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1857 and is one of the biggest and most beautiful structures of its kind. Today 'The Ring' contains a typical cross-section of government buildings, private mansions, spacious squares, parks, monuments and elegant cafés.

  • Königssee

This glacial clear water lake provides an early example of concern about sustainability; it has retained its clear waters through the banning of boats other than rowboats and electric-powered boats. Students can evaluate the impact of this decision on the lake and the lessons to be drawn.

The Alpine National Park, across the border from Austria, is ideal for students looking to understand the tourism potential and conservation implications of this sort of environment.

  • Grossglockner & Zell Am See

This is the highest mountain in not only Austria but the whole of the Eastern Alps. Grossglockner is a major tourist attraction and the beautiful resort of Zell Am See provides a fantastic base for exploration of the glaciers and reservoirs of the surrounding area, perfect for studying glacial processes.
