Russia's state museum houses some of the most beautiful antiquities and opulent rooms in the whole of the country. Discover the great halls and the lengths undertaken to preserve the riches of St. Petersburg during WWII.

This typical Russian church, with its colourful onion domes, was built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated and as such is one of the most important buildings in the city.

This complex contains the cathedral that served as St Petersburg's symbol for centuries and also the prison that held many prominent Bolsheviks captive. Students can use both sites to compare the similarities and differences between the regimes and also explore the importance of religion to the Tsars.

  • Winter Palace

Immortalised in Eisenstein's October, a visit to the home of the Tsar can reflect not only on the importance of this building in Russia's history, but also on how events here have been represented or misrepresented in history.
