This is a working place of worship and educational tours and lectures can be arranged to discuss the history of the building and religion's place in contemporary society.

  • York Dungeon

Follow your ghoulish guide around the cells and manacles of York's dark and gruesome dungeon. Dick Turpin, bloody Vikings, Guy Fawkes and witches, that were burned alive, provide just some of the scary tales linked to York's colourful past. Not for the feint hearted, you have been warned!

  • National Railway Museum

There are usually about 100 locomotives, steam trains and rolling stock held within the national museum at York and pupils studying the industrial revolution will be able to appreciate how these magnificent machines influenced how we live today. The Flying Scotsman, Mallard and Deltic are just some of the museum's most popular exhibits and educational packages for Primary and Secondary schools are available on-line.

  • Jorvik Viking Centre

Some serious excavations have revealed relics, timbers and artefacts from over 1000 years ago and this exhibition is built right on the site of the Viking-age city of Jorvik. This groundbreaking centre presents an in-depth and interactive look at life in the age of the Vikings and the sights and smells will help pupils to take it all in.

  • York Castle Museum

Recreated rooms, shops and streets depict life in the Victorian era. Thousands of every day Victorian objects, people in traditional costume and York Castle Prison, with its spooky guides, give pupils a fun and educational glimpse into the past. Student packs, resources and workshops for KS 1-4 pupils are available.

  • Eden Camp Modern History Museum

This museum was constructed inside the original buildings of a prisoner of war camp and is dedicated to explaining the history of wartime Britain.
