  • Passendale Memorial Museum

    This museum has a vast collection of historical artefacts and life size displays depicting wartime life underground. This is great for history groups studying the working conditions faced by British soldiers in WWI.

  • Hooge Crater

    The village of Hooge became the Salient Front Line and experienced 3 years of fierce fighting, the evidence of which can still be seen today. Although filled in with water, the Hooge Crater is a thought-provoking site and well worth a visit.

  • Essex Farm Cemetery

    Once a WWI Advanced Dressing Station and now the site of a Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. Due to the proximity of the dressing station only 102 of the 1,199 graves are unidentified

  • In Flanders Field Museum

    This exceptional museum details the events, stories, art and personal encounters connected with the city. Educational packages and workshops are available for school groups.

  • Hill 62 & Sanctuary Wood

    This is a Canadian memorial and museum with an interesting collection of memorabilia including slides taken by war correspondents. Outside the museum is a section of trenches preserved in their original state.

  • Menin Gate

    This monument, dedicated to the missing and dead British and Commonwealth soldiers, is the scene of the Last Post in memory of the dead. The Menin Gate is a perfect opportunity for students to reflect on how present generations commemorate and understand events of the past.

  • Langemark Cemetery

    The site of the graves of over 44,000 German soldiers, this site brings balance to students' understanding of World War I as they begin to appreciate the reality of suffering and trauma experienced on both sides. 

  • Yorkshire Trench

    This reconstructed trench gives students an impression of the trench experience for British soldiers. By seeing the conditions in which soldiers had to live, students can begin to appreciate the hardships and trauma of war and the effects on the men and women that experienced it.

  • Tyne Cot Cemetery

    The largest British cemetery in Belgium, students are brought face-to-face with the effects of the war, giving them a sense of the scale of death and stimulating them to think about the effects of the war on those left behind.

  • Cloth Hall Museum

    A visit here helps students understand the military motivations that lay behind the massive loss of life suffered during WWI. This museum is interactive and details accounts of ordinary people who were affected by the War. Educational packages, workshops and day programmes are available.
