• While navigating the streets and negotiating the bustling market towns of this picturesque region students will be presented with an invaluable opportunity to take their language practice out of the classroom and into the real world. Following the "Young Reporter" course, students can develop their speaking and listening skills and learn about French culture.

    Subject Focus:

    • KS 3-5: Take French language practice beyond the classroom by letting students engage in both prepared but also unscripted encounters with native speakers.
    • KS 3-5: Develop students' confidence and fluency in speaking French by using it in practical situations.
    • KS 3-5: Better understand the culture of the people who speak the language.

    Student Outcomes:

    • Develop speaking and listening skills through communicating with native speakers in real-life situations.
    • Boost students' confidence as they learn their capabilities.
    • Learn about the culture that informs France and moulds the people.
  • Traditional French Markets

Send your students into the charming markets and towns of Brittany to negotiate and gain confidence in their use of practical French.

  • Rance Dam

The world's first tidal power station can be visited to give students ideas about how tides work and also how local resources can be used to meet the challenge of sustainability. It will then be possible to reflect on what could work in other contexts.

  • Beaches and Coastal Towns

As a region, Brittany specialises in tourism; in Saint-Malo, the population quadruples in the summer months. Students can study the impact of this tourism on the local economies and environments of Breton towns.

  • Orchards

What makes the cider of Brittany so prized? Visit the orchards to understand the environmental and economic factors that have affected this industry.

  • Oyster Farm

Agriculture does not simply happen on land; Brittany's coastline makes it ideal for the cultivation of oysters. Students can evaluate the methods used and the importance of these operations in shaping local economies.

  • Young Reporter/Language Assignments

The concept of this course is to place the student in the role of a reporter and is linked closely to GCSE methodology. ‘Young Reporters' work in small teams to research a theme before they conduct interviews with local people, all material is then reviewed and the best interviews played and discussed back at the hotel. The final report can take a variety of forms reflecting both the aims of the individual teams and their linguistic ability e.g. advanced level students could aim to produce a report in the style of a newspaper or magazine article.

  • French Lessons

This course combines language lessons from qualifield language schools in resort with ‘out and about' assignments. All assignments are task based, strengthening lessons learnt from the classroom session and aims to provide a degree of self sufficiency in the language, whether its understanding the money, exploring the market or shopping for food. This course includes morning language lessons, a certificate for each student and worksheets on a CD Rom.
