• Mountains aren't just for skiing. During the summer months, the freshwater of the lakes, the melt water of the rivers and the freedom of the passes make the Alps a great place to take a group of students with a sense of adventure. They can learn about the value of teamwork, try new activities, and see some spectacular sights.

    Subject Focus:

    • KS 3-4: Develop sporting and physical skills through participation.
    • KS 3-4: Enable participation in a range of new and established activities.

    • Try new activities to give students the inspiration to keep fit and healthy.
    • Develop new physical skills and refine more well-known ones.
    • Build esprit de corps and confidence.
  • VISALP Summer Activities Pass

Whilst staying in Alpe d'Huez there are plenty of activities to keep groups occupied and exercised in the fresh Alpine air including swimming, summer luge, indoor climbing sessions and volleyball.

  • Annecy

The picturesque town of Annecy has some great examples of architecture including chateaus, churches and an old prison. Annecy is the gateway to the second largest lake in France which is renowned for its water sports and mountain clear waters.

  • Further Activities and Sports

If you have the time after exploring the valleys, mountains and water features of the Alps then there is always the opportunity to indulge in some more tried and tested pursuits such as tennis, mini-golf, ice skating and archery.

  • Adventure Playgrounds

There are an abundance of adventure playgrounds and assault courses nestling in the pine forests of the mountain foothills. Whether swinging through the canopy, climbing rope ladders, flying down zip lines or enduring the monkey swing students will be completely secure in their carefully checked harnesses and safety equipment. An exciting challenge or just a fun day in the forest it's up to the individual.

  • Gorges Du Fier

In between Annecy and Rumilly you will find Les Gorges du Fier, an amazing spectacle that lets visitors walk through ravines and deep gorges that have been carved out of the rock face by the river Fier. A visit here will provide a lovely day out and a great chance for students to practice their photography skills.

  • Summer Sledging

Once you've climbed up the mountain slope why don't you slide down? Summer sledging takes the hard work out of walking by providing purposely built toboggan runs. This is great fun for students and tour leaders and a must for all lovers of high speed in safe conditions.

  • Mountain Trekking

Students can soak up the atmosphere at a more leisurely pace as they embark on a mountain trek through the foothills of the Alps. What a great opportunity to sample the fresh air and countryside amidst the evergreen forests and mountain paths that wind across the mountain range.

  • Rock Climbing

Within The Alps there are hundreds of climbing routes suitable for beginners and experts alike. A climbing trip will encourage students to push their boundaries while inspiring them to believe in their own abilities. When undertaking adventurous activities such as these we ensure that we use only the best climbing companies and provide only the most stringently tested safety equipment.

  • Via Ferrata

A via ferrata (Italian for iron road) is a mountain route which is equipped with fixed cables, stemples, ladders and bridges. The use of these allows otherwise isolated routes to be joined to create longer routes which are accessible to people with a wide range of climbing abilities. Students can follow via ferratas without needing to use their own ropes and belays and without the risks associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing.

  • Mountain Activities

Within the foot hills and higher up the fertile slopes of The Alps students will find a whole host of adventurous activities and out of season sports to challenge their abilities and expand their skills and strengths.

Once you have torn yourself away from the water there is only one way to go and that's up!

Here are some more sports and activities that will keep your students happy and inspired for hours:

  • River Water Sports

The cool melt waters provide fast-flowing rivers that will test students' nerve and energy under safe and secure supervision.

White Water Rafting - Students can respect the power of the river as part of a team. (Minimum age 12.)

Hot-Dogging - Students can negotiate the fast flowing water in an inflatable 2 person canoe. (Minimum age 14.)

Travelbound only work with the best Alpine Water Sports companies in Europe, your students will experience exciting and inspirational activities in a safe and beautiful environment.

  • Lake Water Sports

The awe inspiring lakes of the French Alps provide the catalyst for some of the most enjoyable water sports and activities that can be had away from the ocean. The crystal clear water is a perfect place to try new activities or develop existing skills and interests.

Students can try their hand at:

Canoeing - A perfect means of relaxing and experiencing the amazing scenery from the water.

Windsurfing - Balance and perseverance will make this fun water sport all the more rewarding as you eventually learn how to surf across the lake.

Catamaran - A perfect craft to learn the benefits of sailing and also have the opportunity for speed as you progress.

Dinghy Sailing - Once students have experienced the relaxation of sailing on an alpine lake they will realise there is more to life than TV!
