Travelbound’s Château du Molay, set in acres of peaceful Normandy woodland, is the perfect choice to introduce younger students to France for the first time. It offers a safe and welcoming environment, with sociable staff speaking French at mealtimes, and masses of exciting excursions in the local area to help children improve their language skills.

The traditional farmers’ market in Caen is always a popular visit on a school trip to Normandy, with friendly stallholders happy to converse, and lots of delicious locally-produced produce.

Younger children will love exploring the stalls here, sampling cheeses, juices and bread, or trying on trinkets. Afterwards, take a trip up the hill to see Caen Castle, a beautifully-preserved fortress built by William the Conqueror in 1060.

More conquering at the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, where this fascinating historical document will enthral children as they attempt to decipher the story behind one of their country’s most significant events.

Younger students will love learning about the process behind cheese production at the Chèvrerie de Mesnil, but that’s probably less down to the interesting talk, or even the sampling session afterwards, but because at feeding time they’ll adore playing with the baby goats.

Caramels are a staple of the Normandy tourism industry, and very popular as souvenirs. A factory visit will give children a useful insight into how these products are made, and the importance of tourism to many rural communities. Answers to questions are given in French, so a useful addition to any modern foreign languages trip.

The Ferme du Lavoir marries traditional values with modern technology, producing fresh organic apple juice, cider, calvados and more, at their lovely orchard just a short distance from the Château. Students will enjoy an interesting tour and talk, and of course there is a scrumptious tasting session to follow.

Take in a visit to La Cité de la Mer and explore life in the deep blue. With a range of interactive activities on offer, students can engage with displays no matter their style of learning. Discover La Cité de la Mer below.
