A beautiful Renaissance church that allows students to see the importance and power of Catholicism in the middle ages, not only politically but in the beliefs of the people for whom the Church was built. Students can compare this with the modern-day practice of Catholicism.

  • The Vatican

The centre of the Roman Catholic Church, one of the most important religious institutions and influences for the past 2,000 years. Students can understand how the Vatican gained its position and explore its contemporary importance and meaning. Housed in the richly decorated galleries and apartments of the Vatican Palace, the Vatican Museums boast the largest collection of classical sculpture in the world. Inside you will find an enormous collection of art through the centuries of history, from Egyptian pieces to Etruscan ruins to Renaissance paintings and, of course, the legendary Sistine Chapel.

  • The Catacombs

Explore over 40 underground burial chambers tucked beneath the Eternal City, on a guided tour of Rome’s Catacombs. An eerie experience for even the bravest of hearts, your students will gain a fascinating insight into the city’s history by exploring what lies beneath its streets.

  • Pantheon

One of the best-preserved Roman buildings in the world, the Pantheon has been used as a Catholic Church since  the 7th century AD. Built as a temple dedicated to all the gods, an educational excursion to the Pantheon offers the perfect opportunity to discuss the role of religion in Roman society.

  • Arch of Constantine

Symbolic of a pivotal point in Roman history, the Arch of Constantine offers a fantastic educational excursion for groups interested in later Roman Imperial history. This monument to the Emperor Constantine’s victory on the Milvian Bridge ignites discussion on the roles of war, victory, change and continuity, in Roman society.

  • Sistine Chapel

This is the best-known chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City. Its fame rests on its architecture and on its decoration which has been frescoed throughout by the greatest Renaissance artists including Michelangelo, Raphael, and Botticelli.
