There is, of course, another site that's pertinent to any university travel and tourism student tour and that's where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre once stood. The profound effects of the 2001 attack resonated around the globe and New Yorkers are still emotionally bound by what was the most shocking moment in modern history. Today the memorial and museum that can be found at Ground Zero pays tribute to those that died in the attack and students will no doubt take away plenty of food for thought.

Aside from the legendary landmarks, tourists visit NYC for a whole host of other reasons and from Halloween and Thanks Giving parades to art galleries and Broadway theatres, this really is the city that keeps on giving.

The Guggenheim, the MET, Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theatre are all worth a visit on a travel and tourism student tour and if you get the chance to go behind the scenes at Madison Square Gardens you'll  discover some of the tricks of the trade when it comes to marketing and publicity.

From strolling through Central Park and watching the runners train for the marathon to visiting the home of the New York Yankees baseball team, New York City presents untold case study topics for university travel and tourism students.
