Language students are well-served here, with château staff speaking French at mealtimes, and a range of activities such as visits to local markets which can also be paired with a selection of specialist assignments such as our Young Reporter package, designed to improve confidence and skills.

The Bayeux Tapestry is a favourite with school groups of all ages, a superbly well-preserved historical document, with a captivating interpretation. Just up the road in Caen meanwhile, a castle erected by William the Conqueror gives panoramic views, and on the outskirts of town is the Peace Memorial, which for students of the Second World War is one of the top attractions in Normandy. An exhaustive analysis of the causes and effects of the war, from multiple viewpoints, is given, along with many temporary exhibitions on related subjects.

Normandy of course was the base for the D-Day Landings of 1944, that saw Allied forces begin the final push to free Europe and take Berlin. Visits to the landing beaches, the D-Day Museum, the American and British cemeteries, and Pegasus Bridge are just a small sample of the many enthralling excursions available here for history students.

Food technology tours are regularly held in Normandy. We suggest visits to an organic apple orchard; the ever-popular goats’ cheese farm; a chocolate factory, and one final treat – frogs’ legs and snails for the final evening, delicious traditional French cuisine at its best!

La Cité de la Mer offers schools groups the chance to discover life in the deep blue. Students are provided with a host of interactive and engaging activities as well as a range of multimedia displays suited to all learning styles.
