Suggested itinerary for School groups

Day 1

Flight to Munich. Flight time approximately 2 hours
Coach transfer to Bad Gastein accommodation
Evening meal

Day 2

Breakfast and packed lunch
Intro lesson – Energy transfer related to hydroelectric energy
Waterfall hike and visit to one of Europe’s oldest power stations. Science quiz or Trail
Evening meal before a torch walk

Day 3

Breakfast and packed lunch
Intro lesson - wind energy
Wind Farm visit. Swimming in geothermally heated pool
Evening meal before science-related fun activities

Day 4

Breakfast and packed lunch
Intro lesson climate and the influence on power generation
Trip to Mallnitz BIOS National Park in the Hohe Tauern Mountains
Evening meal before science-related fun activities

Day 5

Breakfast and packed lunch
Visit Kaprun Reservoir Power Station (between end of May and middle of October)
Alternative Innsbruck Solar Cell Factory and the University of Innsbruck – at the forefront of research into renewable energy solutions
Evening Meal. Stargazing activity

Day 6

Breakfast and packed lunch. Early departure
Salzburg – Mozart’s House (flight time permitting)
Transfer to Munich airport for return flight to the UK

Designed and delivered by a former Head of Physics, this extra-curricular study week away from the conventional classroom includes a programme of introductory teaching, exciting excursions and activities. Students will be inspired in their Science Studies in a stunning natural environment.

Succinct morning lessons will prepare students for a programme of excursions, tailored to the year group and in line with the schemes of work for KS3, KS4 or A-level.

Major areas covered are Types of Energy, Energy Transfer, Renewable Energy Sources, Geothermal Activities, Electromagnetism, Climate Change, Global Warming and Astronomy.  

The programme has been designed and will be delivered by a former Head of Physics, an Austrian National, with over 10 years teaching experience of Physics and Science courses from different UK examination boards. The trip will not only be highly exciting for students but will help their understanding of important scientific concepts.
