Some of the world’s biggest banks and financiers, along with the New York Stock Exchange have their headquarters on this famous block. Students can learn about the global impact of these organisations, their economical stance and what exactly constitutes their day-to-day operations.
The Federal Reserve System is the central banking system of the US and helps to dictate the global business environment. The Fed bank in New York is a grand edifice believed to hold a third of the world’s gold reserves in subterranean vaults. Guided tours include a visit here and to the multimedia centre where you can track and learn hypothetical trades.
Tours of this iconic brewery aren’t just about beer – in 2003 the company became the first in New York City to be powered entirely by wind electricity. The Brooklyn Brewery is an outstanding industry example both environmentally and for top craft beer production. Guided tours are a lot of fun, taking in the history and culture of this downtown phenomenon.
The world’s largest department store now offers a fun, retail-focused lecture followed by a store tour. An informative discussion follows the story of Macy’s from humble beginnings in 1858 to the 1m square foot of selling space today. Students will also learn about fashion merchandising visual advertising techniques, with plenty of time left over to shop.
Since 9/11, tours of the NY Stock Exchange are prohibited, but students can still get a feel here for the financial market in motion. There are interactive exhibits on banking and entrepreneurship, with a Centre for Financial Education offering classroom programs where museum tutors and market professionals explore how finance impacts our daily lives.
Book a class for your group at this historic bank building on Wall Street, taught by a museum educator or industry professional. Topics include analyzing stock and financial markets – helping students understand the trade-off between risk and reward in investing. Other classes cover paper money, the history of money, banking in America and bond intelligence.
The One World Observatory is located within the One World Trade Center providing unmatched views stretching across Manhattan to New Jersey. Groups will be able to learn about the history of the Trade Center in New York, its history and construction.
What began as a craft of death masks during the French Revolution has become an international phenomenon of celebrity proportions. At the New York museum, students are invited to take a workshop to learn more about the waxwork process and American personalities. An audio-visual presentation and guided tour follows, exploring the moments in history captured.
