Bauhaus Archive (Temporary Exhibition)

The archive demonstrates how artists and designers created art in a variety of media to be functional and produced on a mass scale. The Bauhaus Archive is currently being renovated and re-built and will re-open in 2022. The archive is currently housed in a temporary space located at Haus Hardenberg Knesebeckstr. 1-2, 10623 Berlin.

German Historical Museum

Germany’s dynamic history is placed in a European context in the exhibition German History in Pictures and Documents, set in Berlin’s baroque Zeughaus, or former Arsenal. Temporary special exhibitions are housed in the modern exhibition hall, designed by IM Pei. This spacious new building has a glass and steel foyer, with a striking helical staircase. ©️Thomas Bruns

The Jewish Museum

Two millennia of Jewish history and culture in Germany are on display in the iconic zig-zag shaped building by architect Daniel Libeskind. Students can explore how the symbolic architecture retells German Jewish history. The historical exhibition route is punctuated with diverse and interactive thematic spaces that expand perspectives on the diversity of Jewish life up to the present day.

New National Gallery (Neue Nationalgalerie)

Reichstag

Built over 100 years ago the impressive Reichstag is the seat of the German Bundestag – federal government. The controversial glass dome has been rebuilt and is now a major Berlin attraction. A guided tour will give students an insight into the history of the building and of Berlin itself. Tip: Talks are only available when parliament isn’t sitting.

Corbusier House Berlin

This monolithic apartment building near the Olympiastadion was Le Corbusier’s response to the Europe-wide housing shortage after World War II. With a design principle he called Unité d’Habitation, he wanted to create fully self-sufficient housing estates with integral services such as post office, shops, sports hall and nursery.

Now the site of many redevelopment projects, Potsdamer Platz represents both an important and historic public square. Once bisected by the Berlin Wall, students can explore a mix of retail and food outlets, art, and examples of architectural excellence.

Berlin Central Station (Berliner Hauptbahnhof)

This impressive glass and steel construction, opened in 2006, is Europe’s largest state-of-the-art interchange railway station. On this guided tour, students learn about the architecture and technology of this light-filled structure. They also gain an understanding of the station’s context in terms of operation, city planning and infrastructure.
