Discover French Culture in Normandy

Discovering the culture of the country you’re visiting is essential on a school trip abroad. One of the main purposes of a school trip to France is of course to practise the language and experience French culture.

With so much to do in Normandy, your students will have plenty of opportunities to speak with locals and hone their French skills. What’s more, by staying at the Château du Molay rather than a standard hotel, they will be able to enjoy some typically French experiences (more snails anyone?).

Dedication from the Château team

Having been a Travelbound property for many years now, the DBS-checked Château du Molay team is used to looking after and interacting with UK school groups. Our team is on hand to help with any questions you may have and will always try to interact with your students to hear about their day exploring the Normandy region.

French cuisine

When it comes to food, you will also get to experience a wide range of delicious French products. Freshly-baked croissants and pains au chocolat are waiting for you at the breakfast counter as soon as you wake up. We can also arrange a crêpes evening for your students, which is always a firm favourite amongst UK school groups staying at the château.

And of course, you will not want to miss the opportunity to see the look on your students’ faces when they are presented with snails for the first time! Open their sense of adventure and appetite for local delicacies with our snails and mussels tasting.

French excursions and interaction in Normandy

In close proximity to the Château, your students will also get many opportunities to build an authentic French cultural experience and delight their tastebuds. More classic French cuisine and friendly locals await at our popular excursions, most of them only a short drive from the Château.

French market

Time to get immersed in the hustle and bustle of daily French life. Students will visit a French market, bursting with delicious local produce, and will be encouraged to interact with French locals.

Goats’ cheese factory

Come discover how dairy products such as milk and cheese are produced on an authentic working goat farm. Meet the goats and learn about the cheese-making process. It’s an excellent way to understand more about the traditional produce of the area and a good chance to practice those language skills.

Caramels factory

You cannot go to Normandy without visiting a traditional Normandy Caramel factory. Take a tour overlooking the factory floor where you can watch the process of soft toffee making and buy the yummy caramel products at the end. This is also an excellent opportunity for students to understand how the tourist industry supports local businesses.

Les Sablés d’Asnelles

Asnelles is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it village with a shop called Les Sablés d’Asnelles that specialises in traditional French butter biscuits. A tour of its factory will teach your students the process of making these delicious biscuits and show how they are packaged and sold. The tour includes taste tests as well to enjoy their melt-in-the-mouth texture and buttery taste.
